Take a Class

We teach eight week evening classes at introductory, intermediate and advanced levels. The classes run one evening a week Monday to Thursday. We also teach half day, one day, and two day workshops on Saturdays and Sundays at introductory, intermediate and advanced levels.

Evening classes are from 6:30pm-9:30pm

One Day classes are from 10am-6pm

1/2 Day class times are specified for the class

Cancellation Policy:

In case of cancellation it must be done five business days before the start date and there is a maximum $95 non-refundable fee.  If a student cancels with less than five business days’ notice no refund will be made. This fee cannot be applied to another class. Class deposits are not transferable to another date with less than 5 business days’ notice. If a class does not run due to low enrolment, registrants will be offered a full refund or have the option to transfer their deposit to another class of their choice.

Gift Certificates are considered valid for use immediately after purchase. If a gift certificate is not redeemed after 18 months a $2.50/month dormancy fee is applied. 18 months are counted from the month following purchase.

*Masks are required for the duration of time spent in class at Jewel Envy.

8 week classes cost $385 plus HST = $435.05

1/2 day workshops cost $115 plus HST = $129.95

Kids classes are listed under half day but are 3 hours and cost $65 plus HST = $73.45.

1 day workshops cost $185 plus HST = $209.05

2 day workshops cost $370 plus HST = $418.10

We also offer private instruction at a rate of $50 plus HST/hour = $56.50.   Private instruction is suitable for short term goals that only require a few lessons. All 8 week classes have an additional charge for precious metals as well as any cast metal. Most weekend classes include a set amount of materials and gem cutting has an additional material charge. Please read the short description for the class of your choice for any other additional charges as they will be outlined below. If you need more information please ask!

8 Week Jewellery Classes

Introductory Fabrication Class (level 1)

Learn basic goldsmithing techniques including: piercing, filing, forming, soldering, finishing, making your own findings and much more. In this class you complete 3 projects in sterling silver: a band ring, roller printing, and a project of your choice based on the skills you learn each week. No experience necessary.

Intermediate Fabrication Class (Fabrication 2)

In this class you continue to develop the skills learned in the previous class and learn new skills that include: dapping, making dies for the hydraulic press, soldering hollow forms, bezel setting round cabochons and round faceted stones. In this class you make 2-3 projects based on the complexity of your design. You must have taken at least one fabrication class (here or somewhere else).

Intermediate Fabrication Class (level 3)

In this class you continue to develop your fabrication skills learning chain making, fusing, marriage of metal, and stack lamination.  You must have taken a minimum of 2 fabrication courses here or elsewhere.

Intermediate Fabrication Class (level IV)

In this eight week class you will make a hollow ring or pendant. The complexity of the design will depend on how many fabrication courses you have taken. You must have taken at least 3 eight week fabrication class. The more fabrication experience you have the more complex your piece can be. We encourage you to email sketches in advance!

Intermediate Fabrication Class (level V)

In this eight week class you learn how to make a mokume gane billet and then make at least one piece of jewellery with it. This class focuses on complex soldering.  The complexity of the design will depend on how many fabrication courses you have taken. You must have strong soldering skills.

Intermediate Fabrication Class (level VI)

In this eight week class you will make a hinged bracelet. The complexity of the design will depend on your skill set. The more fabrication experience you have the more complex your piece can be. We encourage you to email sketches in advance!

Introductory Casting Class

In this eight week class you learn how to carve wax for the lost wax casting process as well as a direct casting technique into cuttlebone. You will learn a variety of carving and finishing techniques. You have the chance to cast your own pieces using a centrifugal casting machine as well as pouring metal directly into your cuttlebone. You will make 3 projects in this class: a ring, a textured piece and a final project of your choice based on the skills you learn. No experience necessary.

Intermediate Casting Class

In this eight week class you will continue to develop the skills learned in the previous casting class. You learn about designing a project with multiple pieces. In this class you design and carve one wax to then mold and use in multiple pieces of finished jewellery. The number of pieces you complete depends on your design. You can incorporate other techniques into this class to suite your designs. You must have taken at least one casting class (here or somewhere else) as well as one fabrication class (here or somewhere else). There is an additional materials charge in this class for the mold you will create. This mold is reusable and yours to take with you as part of the class. These molds are based on size and weight and cost anywhere from $50 plus HST to $150 plus HST. Most molds in the class end up between $50-$75.

Gem Setting Class (level 1)

In this eight week class you will learn a variety of settings on pieces we have designed and cast for you. Additionally you will make 2 specialty setting tools. Settings: bezel, 6 prong, 4 prong in a row, channel, tension, flush set. There is an additional fee for the package of materials $200 plus hst which includes castings, synthetic gemstones, tool steel, all burs needed for the settings.

Introductory Enamelling Class

In this eight week class you learn the basics for making enamelled jewellery. You start with enamelling on copper and learn about cold connecting enameled pieces. You will make a variety of sample pieces in this class and the final number of pieces you make depends on how complex your designs are. If you have previous experience or have taken introductory fabrication you can include sterling silver in your projects. No experience necessary. There is an additional material fee of $25 in this class.

Intermediate Enameling Class

In this class you learn about using enameling techniques in fabricated jewellery. You will learn how to set enameled pieces in silver. You must have taken introductory enameling here or elsewhere.

Open Class

In this eight week class you bring your own ideas and we will help you figure out how to make them from start to finish using the skills you have already learned in other classes. To take this class you must have taken at least 2 eight week courses here or elsewhere. One of these courses must be introductory fabrication and the other can be anything else. This class will be project based but you must come with some skills and a plan on how to make your pieces. You will make 1-2 projects over the course of eight classes. You must consult with us in advance of the class on your project and come with a step by step work plan so that you are ready start on class one!

1/2 Day Jewellery Classes

Pendant Class

In this class you will learn how to pierce, drill, and finish metal. This class will teach you about cold connections. It is ideal for beginners who would like to do some work at home but do not have a torch set up. No experience necessary.

Cuff Bracelet Class

In this class you will learn how to drill, rivet, stamp and roller print. This class will teach you about adding textures to your work. It is ideal for beginners. No experience necessary.

1 Day Jewellery Classes

Band Ring Workshop

In this one day class you make a sterling silver ring from a sheet of metal. It is equivalent to the first 3 weeks of the 8 week fabrication class. No experience necessary.

Incorporating Goldsmithing Techniques into Beaded Work Workshop

In this class you learn some basic beading techniques and goldsmithing techniques that you can easily combine to improve the finishing and quality of your own work. You will learn how to tie off beads, make some simple findings, and properly finish your own work. No experience necessary.

Stacking Ring Workshop

Learn how to make stacking rings in this one day workshop. You will work with sterling silver wire and learn a variety of wire techniques to create multiple rings to be worn alone or together.

Earring Workshop

In this one day class you will learn to make a pair of stud or hanging earrings using traditional fabriaction techniques that include piercing, rivetting, soldering, and finishing.

Cuttlefish Casting

In this class you learn how to carve a shape into cuttlefish (the bone of a sea creature), cast it and finish it. Depending on your timing you can make between 1-3 finished pieces (material included for the first piece). No experience necessary.

Name-plate Workshop

Design and pierce your name out of a sheet of precious metal. In this class you will create a stylized version of your name (or a short word) and learn to pierce it from a sheet and then make it into a finished necklace or keychain.

Rendering Workshops

Level 1- In this class we will introduce the basics of designing and drawing jewellery. You will learn how to do a workshop drawing (also know as an orthographic projection or three plane projection), how to draw jewellery in perspective as well as an introduction to rendering gemstones and overlays in colour.

Level 2- More advanced techniques using pencil crayon and guache as well as more advance perspective drawings.

Textile Techniques in Precious Metals Workshop

Learn how to use textile techniques to create jewellery using precious and non-precious metals. In this one day introduction you will learn about four techniques and then create and complete a project of your own using the skills learned in class. Feel free to bring in beads or stones you would like to consider using. No experience is necessary but this class will be a unique experience for those new to jewellery and seasoned professionals alike!

Chain Making

In this class you will learn how to make jump rings and use them to make chain. You will be shown a variety of chain styles and how to make them. You will also learn how to solder and finish them. No experience necessary.

Basic Enamelling

In this class you will learn basic enameling techniques including stenciling. You will design and make one pendant and a pair of earrings or two pendants.  No experience necessary.

Intermediate Enamelling

In this class you will learn about bezel setting a domed enamel piece, or cloisonne, or champleve. Although all may be demonstrated each student must pick one technique to work with to complete one project.

Bezel Stone Setting

In this class you will learn how to make a bezel and set a cabochon stone. You can either bring your own stone or purchase one from us. If you are bringing your own stone please confirm with us that is the right size and hardness for this lesson. You must have completed at least one ring class here or elsewhere.

Ornament Workshop

Learn to make you very own ornament out of copper and brass! Perfect for hanging on a Christmas tree or in a window to glint in the light. In this one day class we will teach you how to pierce out a design, use self jigging joints and form a flat sheet into a 3 dimensional sculpture. If you love to make gifts for your family and friends this is the perfect class for you.

2 Day Jewellery Classes

2-Day Casting or Wedding Band Class

This class is taught over two weekend days one week apart. In the first class you will learn various techniques for carving waxes and carve at least one piece. We will cast your piece using the lost wax casting process in the metal of your choice (up to 10 grams of sterling silver is included in the this class). In the second class you will learn how to finish your piece(s) using a variety of equipment.

2 Day Gem Cutting and Setting Workshop

On day one you will cut four to six cabochon gemstones and choose one to make into a finished piece of jewellery. On day two you will make a pendant and learn to set your stone. There is an additional material charge for this course of $35 plus HST. The course includes 10 grams of sterling silver.

You are welcome to sign up for only the gem cutting portion of the class for our regular one day course fee plus an additional material fee of $35 plus HST. You are welcome to sign up for only the gem setting portion of the class for our regular one day course fee but it will only include 5 grams of sterling silver and a 5mm round cabochon gemstone. You can purchase a different gemstone from the studio or bring one of your own but please consult about size, shape, and hardness! To sign up for only 1 day of the 2-day course it must be in person (in advance) or over the phone, sign up for one day will not be available online.

2 Day Open Class

Open Class is a 2 day course. This is a class where you bring your own ideas and we will help you figure out how to make them from start to finish using the skills you have already learned in other classes. To take this class you must have taken at least 2 eight week courses here or elsewhere. One of these courses must be introductory fabrication and the other can be anything else. This class will be project based but you must come with some skill and a plan on how to make your pieces. You will make 1 projects project over the course of 2 full days. You must consult with us in advance of the class on your project and come with a step by step work plan so that you are ready start on class one!

2 Day Mokume Gane Class

In this class you will learn what mokume gane is and how to make it. You will make at least one billet of mokume gane using sterling silver and copper and learn two distinct ways to pattern your metal. This is an advanced goldsmithing class. You must be good at soldering without supervision!

2 Day Bezel Setting Class

Learn how to make a sterling silver ring and set a cabochon stone over this two day course. If you have some experience with setting you are welcome to bring your own stone and learn how to make a more complicated bezel setting on a design of your choice. If you are bringing your own stone please consult with so that you can choose a stone with a hardness of 7 or more or Mohs hardness scale.

Private and Corporate Jewellery Classes

Corporate Classes

You can sign up for a private corporate workshop for any of our regularly taught classes or we can design a class just for your group based on any requirements given to us. This class can be booked anytime, please inquire about available dates. No experience necessary.

We can also design a special short course for a party.

Wedding Band Workshop

This is a private workshop for couples to make their own wedding bands. You can book this class at your leisure. It happens on two weekend days at least 1 week apart. In this class you will carve your own wedding bands and finish them. You can make them out of any material you want (silver, gold, platinum). Please inquire about available dates. No experience necessary.

Kids Party

Kids Enamelling Party

Learn the basics of enamelling in three hours. Students will learn how to use and make their own stencils to create enamelled copper pendants. Everyone will make at least one finished piece of jewellery they can wear home. All materials are included. This class is booked as a private party with a minimum of six students and a maximum of fifteen. It is appropriate for kids between the ages of 10 to 17 (16 and 17 year olds can take our adult classes with a guardians consent but will still enjoy this class). There will be a minumum of two instructors when the students are under 15 and under at all times but at least one guardian must be present during the entire class.

Kids Cuttlefish Casting Party

Learn to make a bronze pendant or key-chain in this three hour class. Students will carve a shape into cuttlefish (the bone of a sea animal) and instructors will pour molten metal into the cavity they create. The cast piece will then be finished by the students into a pendant or key chain to take away. All materials are included. This class is booked as a private party with a minimum of six students and a maximum of fifteen. It is appropriate for kids between the ages of 10 to 17 (16 and 17 year olds can take our adult classes with a guardians consent but will still enjoy this class). There will be a minumum of two instructors when the students are under 15 and under at all times but at least one guardian must be present during the entire class.
